Top 5 Most Overrated Movies of All Time - Titanic

Number 4:

Titanic (1997)

Directed by: James Cameron

Starring:  Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Gloria Stuart, Bill Paxton

Oscars (winners in BOLD): Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup, Best Music, Best Song, Best Sound, Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Visual Effects

Why This Made the List: For those of you who know me, this is no surprise and shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone.  Actually, some of you just might be surprised, you just might be surprised that this isn’t #1 on the list of overrated movies.  The movie just came along at the right time, caught fire, and found itself dominating awards shows and taking home Oscar gold.

This movie caught fire across the world and everyone just bought in and thought it was a great film.  It wasn't then and still isn't now.  The production value is great, yes, the special effects are amazing, yes, but the movie is only average at best.  The writing was mediocre, the acting was so-so, and if not for the action/special effects the directing is nothing more than action movie fare.  There is no depth to this movie and very little depth to these characters.  There is a manufactured romance that is only romantic because it insists itself to be so.

I don't hate this movie as much as I once did but I don't think it's one of greatest of all time, and it is in no way better than L.A. Confidential (the movie it best for Best Picture that year).
